Samurai Jack: African Chief

The Samurai Jack TV series is one of my favorite cartoons, and I am a fan of Genndy Tartakovsky. SJ was an animated show done color on color, without black lines like traditional cartoons, which makes it a much more time intensive look to pull off in animation.

This illustration is of the African Chief that was the first to teach Sam the art of combat.

In this example that I worked on, I wanted to demonstrate my ability to replicate and work within the constraints of the style, and also show some of my traditional analog skill. (This study was created for my application on one of the Sam Jack projects.) It was created with a pencil sketch and painted over in Gouache on hot press paper.
