Chaotic Trading Card Art: Apolyxic Coat

This trading card image is of a Danian Pupae being coated in a special resin that will fortify his exoskeleton when he hatches. I really enjoyed working on this one and found it hard not to imagine Giger’s Alien Eggs from Aliens in the background as I painted mine.

Narrative:
"Apolyxic Coats are Battlegear found only in the newly established Danian Nest of the Ancestors. These coats are used in the Chamber of Metamorphosis to aid the moulting process in cases where aid is needed – either because the process is going slow or because the moulting is exceptionally extensive. The coats are made from a thick, clear, rubbery and gel-like mixture of secrete and fungi extract. This mixture is smeared all over the creature in moulting to aid in the shedding of the exoskeleton and during the process the mixture hardens and takes on a dark color. When the creature in moulting sheds its exoskeleton, the Apolyxic Coat is naturally shed in the same process."
